William L. Thomas
William L. Thomas, a Washington, D.C., environmental law attorney at Pillsbury Winthrop LLP, will serve as a judge in the final round of the Ninth Annual International Environmental Moot Court Competition.
Mr. Thomas is a senior attorney at Pillsbury Winthrop and a member of the firm's Environment, Land Use & Natural Resources Group, which works on environmental, energy and resources matters throughout the United States and in the firm's overseas offices.
Mr. Thomas is resident in the Washington, D.C. office, where his practice focuses on counseling, litigation and transactions involving environmental, energy and natural resources matters. Mr. Thomas has practiced in the field for more than a decade, combining an extensive background in EPA-related regulatory matters (e.g., contaminated sites, chemical regulation, air and water pollution issues) with natural resource-related matters (e.g., endangered species act implementation and energy project development). He also has substantial expertise in foreign and international environmental matters.
Mr. Thomas has held a variety of leadership positions in national and international organizations, including Chairman of the International Environmental Law Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. He currently serves as an officer in several environmental law groups and committees.
He is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and has published commentary and analysis on a wide range of domestic and global environmental issues. His work explores the use of environmental auditing, pollution prevention, and environmental management systems in resolving enforcement cases.
Mr. Thomas is a 1989 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was Executive Editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, and he is a magna cum laude graduate of St. Olaf College.
